Artist Statement
There is a subtle defiance in the way Zahra translates pain into material form; what once threatened to overwhelm is reworked into presence, something that feels alive and breathing.
In Soul and Body, Zahra works across ceramics, painting, and sculpture, using each medium to trace the contours of memory and resilience. At the centre of her practice is the body, understood not simply as form but as testimony. It carries memory, speaks through gesture, and holds the imprint of lived experience. Movement, rhythm, and physical expression become acts of reclamation, allowing what was once internal or unspeakable to emerge visibly.
The body becomes both witness and author, shaping narrative through its own language. Through this approach, Zahra connects personal experience to wider histories in which grief is made visible, where mourning resists erasure and is transformed into art that can be felt and shared.
